VA Housing Updates

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has increased the maximum Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grant limit to $126,526 for fiscal year 2026 (effective October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026). 

This 3.87% increase in the aggregate amount helps severely disabled veterans and service members manage rising construction and material costs for building, buying, or significantly remodeling their homes. 

Key Details for FY 2026 SAH Grant

Maximum Benefit: Up to $126,526.

Lifetime Usage: The grant can be used up to six times, allowing for multiple projects or moves, provided the total does not exceed the maximum cap.

Purpose: To create a barrier-free living environment for veterans with permanent and total service-connected disabilities (e.g., loss of use of limbs, blindness, or severe mobility issues).

Special Home Adaptation (SHA) Grant: Increased to a maximum of $25,350 for FY 2026, intended for less extensive,, but crucial, modifications.
